NDP CALLS FOR MORATORIUM ON PRIVATE POWER PROJECTS

Vancouver - A diverse group of citizens from environmental, community, and labour groups will protest the Gold Rush-style proliferation of private power Run of River projects at the annual gathering of the private power industry in Vancouver on Tuesday.

Vancouver, BC - A public meeting is being held tonight in Pitt Meadows to determine if a power line will be allowed through Pinecone Burke Provincial Park.

VANCOUVER - An analysis of Tuesday's British Columbia budget shows that even higher BC Hydro rates are coming than reported initially yesterday - more than 21% in the next three years rather than 15% over two, says BC Citizens for Public Power.

On February 2, 2008, the 12 chapters of the Council of Canadians will be joining over 40 communities across the country to mark Canada's first national energy day of action. Events taking place in British Columbia will highlight the theft of BC's rivers through the granting of Private Power Water Licenses to private investors through ‘run-of-river' projects'.

VANCOUVER - The privatization of public power production is the cause of outrageous BC Hydro rate hikes that will skyrocket residential electricity bills over the next decade, says BC Citizens for Public Power.

VANCOUVER - Today's BC Energy Plan is a misleading document that shows the province will increase both its privatization of public power and raise electricity rates while claiming the opposite, says BC Citizens for Public Power, a watchdog group with 75,000 supporters across the province.
