Canada General

Ontario

Privatization and deregulation of Ontario's electricity sector began in the late 1990s, foreshadowing privatization in BC. With the passing of the Energy Competition Act, a market in electricity was established, and Ontario Hydro was restructured into five companies. Ontario's Green Energy Act was passed in May 2010.

USA

Like the rest of the world, the US has grappled with how best to manage storing, managing, distributing, conserving, selling, and trading electricity. Here we look at a cross-section of issues and how the US has addressed its challenges.

International

The past 20 years have seen countries all over the world introduce electricity reforms that promote competition, de-regulation, and privatisation of electricity generation. Each jurisdiction is saddled with their own political and technological challenges while attempting to deal with privatization and regulatory reform.
