Interested in any of the above?

Friends of Bute Inlet (FOBI) is partnering with Trickster Theatre (http://www.trickstertheatre.com/), to stage a creative community activist extravaganza February 27 and 28.

The plan is to use a fast, fun, physical theatre process that Trickster Theatre has developed for use in schools to create some short theatre pieces with our community. Many of these pieces will be crafted specifically for youtube in a style described as ‘Monty Python meets David Suzuki’. These youtube pieces will disseminate information about the province’s sale of BC rivers and the proposed development of Bute Inlet to as wide an audience as possible.

Over the course of the weekend we hope to develop and document the process of creating one piece of community theatre, create a few short youtube live action ‘commercials’, create one or two whiteboard animation commercials, and have a lot of fun.

In preparation, we will need some people to make and find props and costumes, test and check all equipment, and some people to handle logistics and food.

On the Trickster weekend we will need, camera operators, sound operators, a costume person, a prop person, many actors, musicians and artists, some computer expertise and someone willing to learn / man the whiteboard animation ‘studio’.

Afterwards, we could use some people with technical skills to help finish and polish the final products.

ANYTIME: ideas, energy and enthusiasm !

Some notes about the approach to the weekend: The goal will be short 1-2 minute pieces. Commercials in support of keeping the Bute natural.

For example:  Title - Bute Inlet.  Eco tourist heaven:  a group of blissed out eco tourists with fishing rods, kayak paddles etc is standing in frontof some beautiful scenery (birds sounds etc in background).
-A construction worker enters and places a construction zone sign (Plutonic Power & GE logos on sign). Tourists all look. Bulldozer sounds are heard.Tourists all look to the sound. They are all pushed out of the scene. Bulldozer fills screen as it passes across. Background scenery is replacedwith hydro towers and accompanying clearcut.

-New title appears over - Bute Inlet - Industrial zone (vehicle and construction sounds continue)
-Tourists push bulldozer backwards out of picture, replacing background as it goes.  Tourist stand contented as before.
-New title - Just say No to Plutonic Power. Keep BC natural.  End.

To create this we would shoot the tourists against a green screen. We would need to collect the moving bulldozer image, a static image or short videoclip of the towers and of the Bute type shoreline with trees. Editing would involve creating the multiple track overlays. So this is not an easy scene,  but once the acting has the stylized physical comedy in it,I think that it would be funny and get the point across.

In exploring the scene - at the time - we would find lots of comedy nuances to add in.

Other scenes would might look at:
1. Californians coming north to get the power from the Bute for their air conditioners.
2. Putting BC rivers up for sale to the highest bidder. ( 600 claims staked so far)
3.  The link between conservation of energy and the need for new sources of energy.

***** FOBIs: please SEND more SKIT IDEAS – NO HOLDS BARRED!! *******

Please join us if you can!  Bring your alter egos: we can be hilarious and completely irreverent - and hopefully we’ll create something pretty wildly effective!
