First Story is a documentary weekly television series that airs Saturdays at 5pm on CTV. On this four part episode entitled "Blue Gold Rush," the network provides the following preamble: Over the last few years the BC Liberal government has been quietly leasing the rights to many of province's rivers and streams to private power developers. Hundreds of rivers in First Nation traditional territories may be diverted for new private power projects. The Union of BC Indian Chiefs is calling for a moratorium on all development on B.C.'s rivers and streams. How do these projects affect First Nations rights, culture, fish habitats and environment?
