The media is a powerful tool that both reflects and shapes public opinion. This has certainly been the case for BC Citizens for Public Power. Since the organization's inception in 2002, BCCPP has received widespread print and broadcast media exposure in numerous daily and community newspapers across the province, as well as on both public and local radio and television.
In aggregate, the organization has had several hundred media placements since May 2002. News reports have communicated vital information to hundreds of thousands of British Columbians about the provincial government's incremental privatization of BC Hydro along with BCCPP's campaigns to keep our Crown Corporation public. And various columnists have expressed their opinions--in support and in opposition--to both the provincial government's movement toward privatization as well as BCCPP's position and interventions.
This section of the website includes print media interviews, briefs, editorials, and letters, highlighting the work of BCCPP and associated issues. Where possible, broadcast media coverage will also be made available. The information is listed with most recent articles first and can also be accessed by topic, using the key word search. A partial list of daily and community newspapers that have reported on BCCPP's work is reprinted below.
